CNN: Blacks in America

So I watched the documentary on Blacks in America reported by Soledad O'Brien on CNN last night and I was very disappointed. It basically perpetuated most stero-types of Black people. Although they did make mention a few times that there are Blacks who are doing well in America, the focus 75% of the time was on the negative stuff. Even though last night they were suppose to focus on the Black women and her struggles, they just decided to show the defeated part. They focused on a single mother with five kids whom can't make the ends meet and the fact that she had these children out of wed lock (except for the niece she adopted). There are single mother raising wonderful and productive children, I happen to personally know many who are maintaining despite their situation. Yes, it is a struggle to be a single mother but why not focus on the women that have it together to help encourage the one's that don't. I guess it wasn't the intent of the documentary to break down barriers and enlighten people but to make those who already have their own idea of how Black Americans are to say I told you so. My hope was that they would uncover the untruths that are out there in regards to Black people. Tonight the focus is suppose to be on the Black man, I cringe at the thought of what will be "exposed".
